Following news that half of Alan Jones’ advertisers have abandoned him in the wake of several scandals involving violent language against powerful women, The Chaser has come up with a scheme to try and get the rest of his advertisers to abandon him too.

B&T reported yesterday the blowback Jones’ comments about New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern has finally caught up with him, with the Macquarie Media show losing half of its advertising following the ad boycott that ensued.

And now, The Chaser wants the rest of his advertisers to follow suit.

Editor of The Chaser website Cam Smith said: “We noticed that Alan Jones only has 500,000 monthly listeners.

“Our website attracts a lot more than that, so we decided to offer one month of free advertising to any advertiser who withdraws all their advertising from Alan Jones.”

The first offer was made on Twitter to McDondald’s, who still advertise with Jones. The Tweet already has 222 retweets and 972 likes.

Alan Jones gets about 500,000 listeners per month (official numbers, probably inflated). Our website has considerably more monthly readers. So @maccas how's this: we'll give you a month free advertising on our website if you pull your ads from Alan Jones.

“It’s a win-win,” said Chaser founder Charles Firth.

“The advertiser gets to reach a larger audience, and society moves one step closer to Alan Jones being removed from the airwaves.”

Firth also said he thought Alan Jones was misinterpreted.

“We all know that what Alan Jones actually meant when he said that was that he was threatened by the presence of powerful women. Perhaps, given that powerful women exist, and it’s 2019, it’s time for Alan Jones to move on and concentrate on writing cookbooks with Mark Latham full time. I hear it sold dozens of copies.”
