TIME Magazine has unveiled its 2022 person of the year, and the title goes to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and “the spirit of Ukraine.”
The award goes to a person or an event that has shaped and influenced the world globally over the last 12 months. TIME‘s credited Zelensky with making, “courageousness contagious!”
Editor-in-chief of TIME, Edward Felsenthal said: “This year’s choice was the most clear-cut in memory. Whether the battle for Ukraine fills one with hope or with fear, Volodymyr Zelensky galvanized the world in a way we haven’t seen in decades.”

Finalists for the honour this year included the US Supreme court and protestors in Iran.
Most recent previous winners include Elon Musk, who nabbed the top title in 2021 and in 2020 President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris shared the title.
Meanwhile, TIME’s 2022 Icon of the Year award went to actress Michelle Yeoh and TIME’s 2022 Athlete of the Year went to Aaron Judge.
