Novak Djokovic was the most popular tennis player on social media on day seven of the Australian Open, according to new figures from the event’s technology partner, IBM.

IBM’s Social Leaderboard revealed that, following a five set marathon, the tournament top seed received 186,637 tweets, 83% of them positive.

His opponent, Stanislas Wawrinka, was the biggest mover on the social leaderboard on day seven – with 156,073 total tweets for the day – 97% showing positive sentiment.

So far Djokovic and Wawrinka hold the top two spots on the overall social leaderboard, with Andy Murray ranking third.

Murray is sitting on 161,083 total mentions, 82% of them positive.

The female social leaderboard is currently led by Serena Williams who has scored 354,919 total mentions – more than Djokovic. However, only 76% of Williams’ mentions are positive.

Her sister Venus rates second with 204,230 total mentions which showed a much greater degree of positivity – 90%.

Na Li is currently third on the women’s social leaderboard with 169,582 total mentions and a positivity score of 70%.

As the technology partner of the Australian Open, IBM provides the technology for the event’s  website in partnership with Tennis Australia.

This year IBM's analysis of the action extends to the social media arena looking at the topics that get fans talking online and which players become the social media champions.
