The chief marketing officer of Carlton and United Breweries Andy Gibson has quit the post to take up a job in London as the chief marketing officer and president of Bacardi Global Brands.
CEO Ari Mervis confirmed the departure in a statement this afternoon, saying: “While it is a loss for us at Carlton & United Breweries, it is a great opportunity for Andy. It has long been an aspiration of his to head up the marketing function for a global alcohol company. “
Gibson has held the role for 15-months, joining from Diageo where he held senior management roles across the globe for 12 years.
In his time with CUB he has overseen several successful and award winning campaigns for the brewer, including the Carlton Beer Chase .
He also recently oversaw an apology campaign for Victoria Bitter, seeing the beer returning to its original recipe after an outcry from customers, with sales picking up off the back of it.
There is currently an ongoing pitch for the digital marketing element of the CUB account.
Mervis added: “Andy has driven a complete brand and marketing review. It has been a comprehensive process using the SABMiller systems and processes.
“No doubt, the standout result has been the turnaround of our largest brand, Victoria Bitter, from ten years of decline.”
